How to prep your hot tub before vacation

Planning a well-deserved vacation? Before you set sail for relaxation, let’s make sure your hot tub or swim spa is prepped and ready for a worry-free getaway.

Taking a few simple steps to prepare your tub will ensure it stays in top shape while you’re off enjoying some much-needed R&R. Let’s dive in and discover how to get your hot tub vacation-ready!

Check water level

Depending on the weather, there may be some evaporation while you’re away. Fill your hot tub or swim spa slightly above the normal amount to ensure the water level doesn’t drop too low.

Balance the Spa Water

The cleaner you leave your hot tub water, the less work you’ll have to do when you return. Test the water’s pH levels with a test strip. Then, adjust them to get a solid water balance using your preferred sanitizer, whether it is bromine or chlorine.

Cover your hot tub

Shield your hot tub from unwanted elements while you’re gone. Securely fasten your hot tub cover to keep out debris, leaves, and potential critters.

You may want to consider getting a lock to fully ensure that no one or thing gets in!

Set the water temperature

Adjust the hot tub setting to economy or rest mode. This will help with energy savings while you’re away.

If you own an Artesian Elite, Island Spa, or a TidalFit, you can set the hot tub or swim spa to Low in the Dual Temperature Ranges.

If you own a South Seas Spa or a Garden Spa, you can set it to Economy Mode. Both will serve a similar purpose.

Rinse the filters

Give your filters a little TLC before you go. Rinse and/or spray them before you go so they can do their best while you are away. The better they perform, the better the water quality will be when you return!

Inspect the electrical

Do a quick once-over of your hot tub’s electrical components. Look for any signs of damage or wear. If anything looks haphazard, seek professional help.

Freeze protection

If you’re expecting freezing temperatures during your trip, take steps to protect your hot tub. Adjust the temperature settings to prevent freezing, and insulate any exposed pipes to minimize the risk.

All of our Artesian Spas come with either a Freeze Protection mode or a Smart Winter Mode.

If the sensors detect a drop to below 44°F (6.7°C) within the heater, the pump will automatically activate to provide freeze protection. The equipment stays on until 4 minutes after the sensors detect that the spa temperature has risen to 45°F (7.2°C) or higher.
